Locke's Philosophy is very well know and is taught in many history classes and even some of his political philosophy was used in writing the United States "Declaration of Independence" there is the famous text of "every man has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..."

Locke believed something very similar he believed that "every man has a right to life, liberty, and property" he believed that every person had the right to own property by this he meant was that "every man is entitled to what ever he puts work into and that he is entitled to what ever he can use before it perishes, and this property is able to be passed down to his family for they have due rights to it as much as there fathers." Essentially what ever you worked for was your as long as you could use it and that property then became yours and you could pass it down to your children.

Locke obviously had a perception that all people are fairly reasonable and that any one could usually settle disagreements on there own among men. But he did believe there was a purpose for government and that was that when there was a disagreement between two parties about property, in which case Locke proposes a unbiased third party to consider the facts and govern what is the acceptable answer to the two parties predicament. This third unbiased party Locke suggests should be a legislation a "system of checks and balance's" by now you probably can tell that almost all of Locke's Philosophy is deeply ingrained into American Politics. I don't agree that any government is perfect but what i do agree on is that any government is better than the alternative. (Hobbes idea of "the war of all against all)
